Is An Operation The Best Method For Curing Back Pain?

At one time if someone had a lot of lower spinal pain their chiropractor would usually suggest that surgery be performed to treat the ailment. After the surgical procedure, the person would usually be assigned bed rest for a few weeks, and later, if all went good, their back would be improved – unless it wasn’t. In the past, most experts are in agreement, there was unnecessary back operations being performed. Many people weren’t any better off after the surgical procedure, and a lot were in worse condition than they were before the operation.

Recently, studies have demonstrated that many chronic spinal disorders, even lower back pain, will improve on its own without surgery, given rest and time. In reality, for most spinal injuries, all other options ought to be explored subsequent to scheduling surgery on the back. Less than one percent of all back pain sufferers ever truly are in need of medical intervention for their back ailment, still, four out of every five people have back soreness at some time in their life.

Who Needs Back Surgery?

Usually, chiropractors suggest that an operation should only be an alternative if other techniques have been tried and were unsuccessful at relieving the back pain (or if the pain comes back), the pain is negatively having an impact on a patient’s every day activities, or if left untreated the back condition could worsen into a more chronic situation.

Non-Surgical Alternatives

Back pain physical therapy can be an exceptional way to aid the back and spine in its healing process. In addition to the specific back pain workout regimens, often the physical therapist will utilize other processes, such as heat or cold therapy which reduces inflammation and pain and muscle spasms, ultrasounds which utilize sound waves to heal and encourage circulation while at the same time easing inflammation, pain and muscle spasms, massage, spinal traction, Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) which implements a painless electrical current on certain nerves to relieve soreness and increase movement of the back, and water therapy.

A large number of people find improvement by taking medication to improve their back aches. There are many types, some over the counter and some that call for a prescription. They include muscle relaxants, analgesics and NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).

Walking To Lose Weight – Why It’s Such A Good Choice

Many people would not think of something as mundane as walking as a viable way to work out. It’s a low intensity, low impact, low injury risk exercise technique. Ypu won’t need any training or special equipment. You already know how to it – in fact, you probably do it every day.

Nevertheless, it would be a mistake to let familiarity breed contempt in this case. You can lose a few pounds and achieve some major health benefits without the need to put yourself through an exercise schedule suitable for a professional athlete. There are numerous benefits provided by this simple exercise technique – one of which is weight loss.

Walking can reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke. It can help reduce cholesterol levels and also relieve hypertension. As it is a weight bearing exercise, it can increase bone density and help to build muscle. It can help raise the efficiency of both the heart and lungs. The probability of contracting certain types of cancer can be reduced as a result of walking regularly. It can also help to fight anxiety and combat depression. Research in the UK seems to suggest that walking just 8 miles each week can help to stave off senile dementia. As previously mentioned, it can help you to shed a few pounds, get in better shape and feel a whole lot better in general.

That’s an impressive list of benefits. It reads more like an advert for the latest wonder drug rather than a mundane activity that you do every day! You don’t need to “go for the burn” or adopt a “no pain, no gain” mentality. All that you need to do is a little more walking than normal, and you need to keep doing it on a regular basis – you will be pleasantly surprised at just how quickly you begin to see results.

There are numerous opportunities for you to walk a little more. You can slot it into your day whenever it’s most convenient for you. Leave your car at home and walk to work or the shops is a commonly proffered piece of advice. However, if that isn’t workable for you then use your car anyway but park it in a remote corner of the parking lot so that you have to walk further in order to reach the entrance. If you use the bus or the subway, get off a couple of stops before you reach your destination and walk the last section of your journey. Climb the stairs instead of using the elevator. Take a walk during your lunch hour. Walk around whilst you talk on your mobile phone. There are numerous opportunities to walk a little further each day.

Of course, if you’re slipping walking into your day in short bursts as described above, it can be difficult to keep track of your progress. A pedometer may prove to be a good investment. It will record your results in terms of the number of steps taken, the total distance covered or the number of calories burned. This can help to keep your motivation up.

You could also consider getting a cheap mp3 player. You will find that the time and the miles just fly by when you’re listening to your favourite music.

Another recent development which you could use to your advantage is toning shoes. Brands like Skechers Shape Ups Shoes, Fit Flops sandals and Reebok Easy Tones all use special soles that increase the amount of work that your lower body muscles perform while walking. This can help you tone and trim your lower body – just by walking.

So, if you want to shed a few pounds, then walking to lose weight is a very good solution. It will also deliver a number of other health benefits (which can be even more important than weight loss).

A Few Tips on Setting Up a Home Gym

One can do easy toning and muscle building inside a gym. Some of us may not realize it but exercise is something we do whether unconsciously or otherwise. We cannot help but stretch out our muscles as we go around town doing our errands. Even simple walking around can count as exercise. But there are types of exercises that lead to the results we want. A great exercise time will not only help you stay in shape, it would also contribute to your general health. You can radically increase your life expectancy just by exercising regularly. You can build your muscles by exercising.

If your workload prevents you from getting your regular dose of exercise, don’t worry. Normal working people are also feeling the same thing. When you’re not getting any exercise, it’s time to look for solutions.

You can always find a solution for effective time management. People who want to get healthy faster go to the gym in the wee hours of the morning. Instead of trying to fit exercise into your normal schedule, why not go to the gym when your body is awake naturally. These individuals usually get their exercise in gyms that are open for 24 hour.

A good option is to build your own gym at home. Set an area of your home as your gym and furnish it with equipment. Select the equipment that fit your lifestyle and your space. Get a treadmill only if you have the space for it. If space is too narrow, just allow a space for a yoga mat and a few dumbbells. Instead of grabbing the gym bag and rushing out to the gym when you’re barely awake, exercise at home.

Your home gym can serve as the place where you carry weights. Toning your muscle need not be too hard if you do this. Muscle mass becomes lost if you work your muscles haphazardly. One way to get consistent exercise is to build a home gym.

The Many Advantages Of Walking As An Exercise Form

Walking is becoming more widely recognised as one of the best ways to take exercise. It’s an enjoyable, low impact, low injury risk exercise with the possibility for the introduction of a social element as well. It’s the ideal exercise for anyone who is new to exercise or who hasn’t taken regular exercise for a while.

It doesn’t require any special training or equipment and you can do it wherever and whenever you like. It’s also a very cost effective way to exercise. There are no expensive monthly membership fees to pay, so getting in shape won’t bankrupt you.

Just as with other physical activities, you will use up additional calories when you are actively engaged in walking. However, the really good news is that you will also increase you metabolic rate. This means that you will use calories more quickly during the day, regardless of what you’re doing. It doesn’t matter if you’re reading a book, sitting watching TV, listening to the radio or even when your asleep – you will burn calories faster.

Walking on a regular basis offers many health benefits in addition to weight loss. Your heart will be strengthened and your blood circulation will improve as walking increases oxygen intake in the blood. It can help to reduce your blood pressure level, increase your lung capacity and it even helps to fight depression and anxiety. The risk of contracting certain types of cancer is also considerably lower for regular walkers. Walking will provide you with more energy and will help you to sleep better. The full list of health benefits is too long to include in full. Walking is better than any miracle drug or wonder health supplement.

One good way to make sure your walking sessions are fun is to make it a social event. Go for a walk around the block with some of your work colleagues during your lunch break – or walk around your neighbourhood or local park with neighbours, friends and family members in the evening. If you prefer, you can just take your dog for a nice long walk.

Listening to music while you walk can also make the miles and the time fly by that much faster. If you don’t already have one, an mp3 player is a sound investment. Be careful not to turn the volume up too high and pay attention to traffic, especially if you’re in a busy location.

Fitness footwear technology has seen some interesting new developments of late. You can now choose from a range of “toning” shoes such as Fit flops sandals, Skechers Shape Ups shoes, Masai Barefoot Technology shoes and Reebok Easy Tones exercise shoes. These all claim to increase the efficiency of your walking exercise program by making your lower body muscles work a little harder when you’re walking. They generally have special soles which either replicate the effect of walking on soft sand or produce an element of imbalance which forces your lower body muscles to work harder.

If you find it difficult to keep motivated to walk, then you might consider trying a pedometer. An Omron pedometer is accurate to within 5% and will display your progress in terms of steps taken, calories used or distance covered. Health professionals generally agree that we should aim for 10,000 steps a day in order to secure significant health benefits. Carrying your pedometer throughout the day will encourage you to actively look for new ways to get your daily step count up.

Researchers Associate Pesticides with ADHD in Kids

This past week in the Journal Pediatrics, researchers published an article about a relationship that has been determined between exposure to pesticides and attention deficit disorder in United States children. In order to determine this correlation, kids’ urine was tested for pesticide residue, and those that had the highest levels were shown to have increased chances of developing ADHD, a disease that is associated with trouble in learning at school. It is not clear if the kids were exposed to the pesticides in environmental factors such as drinking water or air, or in the food that they eat. It was concluded that pesticides were present in the urine of 94% of the 1,139 children tested.

Previous studies have shown that switching to organic fruits and vegetables drops levels of pesticide compounds in urine to undetectable or close to undetectable levels. I personally feel that more studies should be done that may actually prove causality and not just correlation with pesticide levels on fruits and vegetables that will push the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to lower the levels of pesticide that are deemed expectable in all food. Until then parents in general should be aware of the risks that may be involved when feeding their children non-organic produce and non-filtered water.

Here at Purity Products we established our Organic Brothers line of Certified Organic Triple Greens and Organic Reds Formula exactly because of our concern for this issue. Our customers can feel confident drinking our Reds and Triple Greens knowing they are certified organic by the USDA and QAI. I love when my kids drink our powdered drinks because I know the benefits are tremendous and the drinks are so pure and contaminant free. Also, many of our other powdered drinks although not certified organic contain many organic ingredients as well.

The harsh reality of the matter is that we are all exposed to pesticides on some level, so I always do my best to purchase as many organic food products as I can, so that I can be sure my kids have very little exposure to pesticides. We should all be conscious of this, and do as much as possible to make sure our children have little exposure to pesticides since they are more susceptible due to their growing bodies and relative size.
