Free Online Poker Guide to Building a Bankroll from Nothing

If you are interested in making some extra money by playing poker then here are a few tips on where to start. There is no guarantee that you are actually going to win loads of cash, but its worth a go and if you turn out to be a good enough player then your chances are high. Most people when starting out in poker are starting with no money, so the first thing to do is to find a free online poker site where you don’t have to stump up any of your own cash, and play some freerolls.

My first tip would be to avoid the huge sites where the freerolls can take as many twenty thousand players at one time. Chances are that the payout at the end will be pretty big, but the chances of getting there are very unlikely. Place top 1% to win a ticket to this, for a shot at that. After placement in top 1% two or even 3 times in a row is how you make money.

Hitting the big tables is where many players fail. Search for a site which is smaller and doesn’t have more than 200 people in the freerolls. You may not win a trip to Vegas but this will start you on your way. Winning anywhere from 10c to $5 or $10 is not uncommon and a few placements like this is all you need to be on your way. Once you have something you feel you can play with you need to know how to manage your bankroll so you don’t lose all of your hard earned money in a single tournament.

The common way to do this is said to be using 1/20th of your bankroll for NL cash games. You want to have at least 300 big blinds in limit cash games so if the big blind is 5c you should have at least $15 before you sit. If you prefer SnG tournaments with 6-10 people you should use only 1/40th of your bankroll and about 1/100th for large tournaments.

It is wise to play with your bankroll wisely, as every player will have highs and lows when playing. Managing your bankroll accounts for you losing for awhile without needing to worry about going broke. Obviously, if you can fund more games after you have lost your whole bankroll then these tips do not apply to you, but its always wise to keep an eye on it no matter how much money you may have. When I started playing, I found that free online poker were the way forward and I managed to get some cash behind me to occasionally take my play to real cash games.

We often talk of strategies, against whom people we have to play, which tournament we have to play … but the most important thing is where we have to play poker games and tournaments and do we play paid or free online poker.

If you play in person, I think it’s best to play against friends or acquaintances. You know they are trustworthy and they aren’t cheaters. Personally I prefer not to play in a casino because they get a large part of the pot and commission.

Does the room have enough members playing at once in the games and tourneys you want tom play to make it worthwhile? You should be able to see this easily by keeping an eye on their poker games software where numbers of players are shown.

Most sites will offer an attractive sign up bonus. Obviously this is paid with money from other players and there will be many conditions for the use and withdrawal of money . Make sure you read and fully understand this. Some rooms are better than others. Its key to remember that wherever you choose to play, the casino or site will always win, however some do it nicer than others.

5) Reaching the final table with a big stack of chips is always the poker players dream come true. If I have a large chip stack I will sometimes kick back and let the low stackers take each other out of the game unless I am giving good cards. Putting more pressure on a player is easier in a tournament then in regular poker tables as unless you win you cannot re-buy and come back to the tournament.

I find tournaments make you stop and think more than if you’re playing a regular holdem table.

Remember, poker is a card game but essentially a numbers game – a game of probability and statistics, you can’t win them all but if you play you’ll win enough to make consistent profits and have a great time!
