The first time I experienced a bad beat was when I was playing at free poker games site, NoPayPOKER.com. I was playing in a sponsored tourney and I had two Kings. The other player had a King and a Ten. Then I got a right kick in the teeth as two Ten’s appeared and threw me out of the tourney.
The second was also at NoPayPOKER Real Money, I was 10 10 in my hand and the flop appeared 10 6 2, I did all-in, my opponent call with him as j, the flush was not possible. But a Q and a K followed made me lose my hand.
The time after that was the worst… I had $150 in titan poker, I was playing a real money head up, the flop gave me four of a kind fives, the flop 556 and the turn was an ace my opponent all-in. I call; he showed a 4 and a 2 of spades, 5 and 6 of the table were spades. I had a 0.02% chance of losing, 1 card only saved him from a possible 45, and the worst part was that 3 of spades appeared.
The loss of $150 hit me pretty hard so I called it a day at pay poker and now I only play free poker games where I don’t lose my own money anymore but still stand a chance of winning a little cash.
I nearly gave up playing poker after my huge loss because I thought it was a game for fools. Somehow I still think it is so, but once a poker player, always a poker player. Although you only remember the bad things that happen to you, good things leave you money.
So, after all my years of playing poker, whatever type it has been, I concluded 3 things:
1) This is poker and there is no certainty in any game
2) I prefer short memories and deep pockets
3) When you lose the desire but still need to play, try playing at free poker games at places like NoPayPOKER, at least there you can scratch the itch, maybe win a bit of money while not losing your shirt!
